Me, the enemy
     . . . a terrorist assault . . .
After the revolution
     . . . dream of troubles gone . . .
Safety first
     . . . the price of safety is privacy . . .
Light of other days
     . . . to share our deepest motives . . .
I will be there
     . . .
Surrender
     . . . it's so tempting . . .
Dust settled down
     . . .
Perishable goods
     . . . the mind of a terrorist . . .
Symmetry
     . . .
Nothing's safe
     . . . never give up the fight! . . .
Heaven and hell
     . . . you will reap what you sow . . .
Panta rei
     . . . forever flowing . . .

Perishable goods

Perishable goods

Part 1 of the 'End of privacy' suite (2005): a twelve song symfony involving baroque, energetic prog with daring harmonics, dark and sweet atmospheres and tender folk.

everything flows

Pre-Platonic thinker Heraclitus realized: panta rei. Only change is real, the rest is just a dream. That 'flux' leads to wealth is seen in the evolution of species and even before that, primitive life emerging from inanimate matter. This deep tendency of nature is honoured in our name Fluxury.
The downside is that nothing lasts forever. The tallest tree, the strongest empire, the mightiest mountain, even the planets and stars are all Perishable goods.

heaven? hell?

USA, land of the free, bright dream of greatness, example to nations. And: ignorant, indifferent, insatiable empire, people die for your greed. While waiting (in vain) for you to overcome your self-centeredness we wrote you yet another song (Heaven and hell).

the 'End of privacy' suite

Perishable goods is part 1 of the End of privacy suite. Part 2 will be recorded later. Different angles to privacy vs freedom are intriguing us. Going to the heart of identity now that the age of enhanced living is near.

privacy

Agencies scanning private mail; terahertz scanners at airports; DNA smartcards at supermarkets, what's next: quantum mindreaders? More & more 'safety' measures to hunt down the enemy inside us are placed upon us and we hardly seem to question that. Are we lulled to sleep? Are critical voices outshined by this mindblowing 21st century anti-terrorist propaganda? Or is this some unite-us-all religious need at work? Maybe we just give in to Big Brother for convenience? These worries of the modern earthling, plus privacy according to Arthur C. Clarke & Stephen Baxter inspired us to some songs.

    "Me, the enemy"

(M: Jan Kuipers, W: Jos Witsenburg, V: Marjolein van Tongeren)

    the grief inside me
I feel no sympathy, for anyone alive
    so I'm the avenger
no one can stop me, ever again, I'm unleashed and alert
I will be there - mourn & cry now

    the days go by
    watching you, seeing you shine
    finding you, inside my mind
    aaahaaahaaahaaa
waiting for guidance and focus and strength
    praying forgiveness repeating your name
    aaahaaahaaahaaa (4x)

    the knife inside you
the crowd in extacy, your blood on my hands
    I'm in the spotlight
no one can stop me, ever again, I'm unleashed and alert
I will be there - mourn& cry now

    "After the revolution"

(M: Jan Kuipers, W: Jos Witsenburg, V: Patricia Beerens)

    dust settled down
    fouled the old souls
grey on grey, they will stay

    smoke cleared away
    soot penetrated walls
    please crumble, please crumble now

names have leaked into the soil
    and then the rain came
    over speechless, shivering leaves

    dust settle down
    dust wash away
    reality tampered with
    reality tampered with

    dust settled down
    fouled the old souls
grey on grey, they will stay, they will stay

    "Safety first"

(M: Jan Kuipers, W: Jos Witsenburg)

    you’re reading my mind
    you know how I feel
    you see what I mean
    you know what I want
    I know what I see
    I feel like a foe
    I see what you fear
    I mean you no harm
    you’re reading my mind
    you know how I feel

    your greed paved the way
    you asked for this deal
    you did not believe
    you could not conceive
    it’s just what you reap
    if fear’s what you sow
    let poverty grow
    predatory state
    your greed paved the way
    you asked for this deal

    "Light of other days"

inspired by the novel 'The light of other days': Arthur C. Clarke & Stephen Baxter
(M: Jan Kuipers, W: Jos Witsenburg, V: Thea van Rijen)

    - chorus:
I know what you did, yesteryear, looking back in the light of other days
knowing life on earth, constant fear, and suddenly, invention set us free
    see & be free

    - refrain:
the life we live looks so eminent to me, no secret will, judgement call
consent and compassion rules the waves
when I look down on history, it's all so shocking to me
wish I could break that ceiling, to nurse to console and ease my soul

see & be free - see & be free

    - chorus -          see & be free

I see there's plenty space for all, for now and future days
laughing, playing, flying - see and be free

    - refrain -
    - chorus -          see & be free - be free - be free - be free - be free

    "I will be there"

(M: Jan Kuipers, W: Jos Witsenburg, V: Marjolein van Tongeren)

    the grief inside me
I feel no sympathy, for anyone alive
    so I'm the avenger
no one can stop me, ever again, I'm unleashed and alert
I will be there - mourn & cry now

I will be there - I will be there - I will be there - I will be there - I will be there - I will be there
I will be there - I will be there - I will be there - I will be there - I will be there - I will be there

    "Surrender"

    (M: Jan Kuipers)

    "Dust settled down"

(M: Jan Kuipers, W: Jos Witsenburg, V: Patricia Beerens)

    dust settled down
    fouled the old souls
grey on grey, they will stay

    smoke cleared away
    soot penetrated walls
    please crumble, please crumble now

    dust settled down
    fouled the old souls
grey on grey, they will stay, they will stay

    "Perishable goods"

(M: Jan Kuipers, W: Jos Witsenburg, V: Marjon Bolck)

this carpet you call strip for the world, for instant satisfaction
.... grand ego events, grandstanding, and limo’s on fast lanes, proudly gathering
smile and ignore bystanders, they're ornamental alongside your loudest of lives
    the flashlights, the blue light in motion, s l o w l y your eyes .... to low .... horizons ....

in others who adore you, you can see yourself like you like to see yourself
you cushion ... possible confrontations with careless displays of your dashing charisma
    a whispered inside joke to your fantastic companion, and a hot one-liner - w i s e crack
the image, your contribution to the mind of the crowd .... the rush .... of it all ....

    - Chorus:
and I, I'm watching you, owowoow, biding my time - I know, I'm aiming now, owowoow
and I know it's over for you soon, your fate, your life, my hands
and I, I'm watching you, owowoow, biding my time - I know, I'm aiming now, owowoow
shifting targets - yes I know it's over for you soon ....

the specks of gold and silver you shake off, they melt opposition
... you got your spindoctor, let him deal with remaining friction
your fame will grow, the globe will glow, the future is over the - rainbow
enchanting lamb, adrenaline fan, are you for real .... and if so .... then why ....

    - Chorus -

mourn & cry now, feel your mistake now - regret you ever met me and face this grim foreland
    mourn & cry now, feel your mistake now - bleed and feel . . . . my . . . . pain . . . .

    "Symmetry"

    (M: Jan Kuipers)

    "Nothing's safe"

(M: Jan Kuipers, W&V: Jos Witsenburg, V: Marjolein van Tongeren)

mourn & cry now - end of privacy
    sneak invasions - faking harmony
I will be there - mental piracy
red resistance - fight for liberty

don't believe this amusement - propaganda
think of ways to ignore it - ways to overcome

    nothing's safe
    when all can see
    we face the end
    of privacy
    who the hell
    are you to me
    to spill your guts
    on live TV
    stay away
    stop messing with my mind

    you're reading my mind
    you know how I feel
    you see what I mean
    you know what I want
    I know what I see
    I feel like a foe
    I see what you fear
    I mean you no harm
    you're reading my mind
    you know how I feel

    sneak invasions – faking harmony
mourn and cry now – end of privacy
red resistance – fight for liberty
I will be there – mental piracy

just say no to these implants for your pleasure
don't you touch those misguiding thought enhancer tools
    ways to overcome
    ignore it, ways to sabotage
    ways to overcome

    "Heaven and hell"

(M: Jan Kuipers, W: Jos Witsenburg)

your greatness resides - in people's ideals
the dollar supreme - for 200 years
to war and in peace - the muscle of Sam
you carried the torch - magnificent tears

    barking guns
    and dusty skies
    the bloody end
    where freedom dies
    where is god
    to stop this ride
    to fix this storm
    restore the pride
    where’s my faith
    stop messing with my mind

dust settled down - fouled the old souls
grey on grey - they will stay
