Lunar escape velocity

Debut album

Creating our debut (2001) took us 2 years, it was a lo-tech, lo-budget operation. We look back on that period with pride, realizing the album is not representative for Fluxury today, even if some songs were on the live menu for years (Unreality, Tucked away, Lookup, Remember a face, In silence we trust).

Lyrics

"Introduction"

(M: Jan Kuipers)

"Unreality"

(M / W / V: Jan Kuipers)
"Lunar escape velocity" version :
you know I shouldn't fool around, stop wasting my time, I've got to gain control
and I, I figured it out, life is important to me
I wanna stand up and loose my make-up, remove my unrealities
and everything I've worked and lived for it seems that it stopped making sense to me

"Live" version :
you know I shouldn’t fool around, stop wasting my time, I’ve got to gain control
‘cause I, I figured it out, life is important to me
I wanna know what the truth in me is, and face my unrealities
and everywhere I look I see that - the joke is on me, is on me, on me

no reason to sustain the fool, the idiot inside me, I’ve got to let her go
‘cause I, I got it worked out now, my life is important to me
I’m gonna stand up & loose this make-up, remove my unrealities
and everything I’ve worked and lived for it seems that it stopped making sense to me

"Pretty perfect"

(M: Jan Kuipers, W: Jos Witsenburg, V: Ingrid Loos)

you look just like a goddess, you're as pretty as a rose
you've got the perfect mouth, you've got the perfect nose
you KNOW you're looking great, you get anything you like
you never stand in line, you smile your way to Mike

your ass - your hips - your waist - I dream that I can taste...
your navel - …. - my mistake, my mistake - and it's OK

you don't need any money, you don't need no lies
to get just what you want, to manipulate the guys
you move your ass around, wrapped in jeans so tight
your voice is bright and light, just like a winternight

you've got - the best - T&A - angelic all the way...
but Jesus - ..... - your attitude, your temper - and it's OK

it is hard to picture you close to me or anyone, how can you be so far, so good
you're so nearly human, superhuman, overdone, it's hard to picture you at all

so selfish, so cynical, so ignorant, so sweet
so childish, so immature, so greedy, so sweet

"Fluxury"

(M / V: Jan Kuipers, W: Jos Witsenburg)

dreams like bats in caves at dusk
dangling fragments fall alive
into visions endlessly varying - endlessly varying
affluence swirling into synthesis

or whisk away into the dark - fluxury
urgent song aphasia - fluxury

"Volatile"

(M / V: Jan Kuipers, W: Jos Witsenburg, V: Ingrid Loos)

you're laying on your bed, looking at the ceiling
building structures hiding reeling burning feeling
below your breath you know you're hiding burning through the days
but your TV won't tell you that, just flashing colors on your face
it says: 'anything is possible, yes baby, stay with me, look at me baby'
it says: 'aaaahaha-aaaaahaha-aaaaahaha-aaaahaha'

piles of clothing, make-up yesterday and gone today
perfumes, samples mirrors many, baggy candles lit, you pray
sinister little objects no-one should touch, when you lock your door
you close your eyes to keep the faith, don't want to wait some more
you say: 'anything is possible, how can I stop this cruel flowing of time?'

- chorus :
you want to be a model for the millions, your fantasy
to be a sacred example to them all, so serene
everybody will recognize the quality, the divine ingenuity in you
shining like a star and pulsing, rays reaching everybody's heart
volatile, so volatile, so volatile, so volatile

a stroll through world literature, history, philosophy, the arts
I see a lot of dog-ears but I see no satisfaction
it's like you left poison on the tip of every page you ever read
these thoughts collecting dust now, they are useless anyway
they tell you: 'anything is possible, you're never gonna mean anything to anyone'
they say: 'Aaaaahaha-aaaaahaha-aaaaahaha-aaaahaha'

- chorus -

you're drawing arches with crayons on paper
tensions waxing and waning so patiently
somewhere along the way you lost the ability to act on what you're feeling
the years roll by and you're looking at the ceiling, you're looking at the ceiling
and you're looking at the ceiling, you're looking at the ceiling

"Lunar escape velocity"

(M: Jan Kuipers, W / V: Jos Witsenburg)

it was so much easier
easier than I thought
to leave those nights behind
no trouble at all, like a free fall

"Lookup"

(M / V: Jan Kuipers, W: Robert van Mill)

Lookup (a capella) :
- chorus :
look up and see the sky and feel the sun, it's free and it is all just for us
look down and touch the grass, it's time for fun
look down and touch the grass, it's free and it is all, love and lust, love and lust

"Lookup (tutti)" :
- chorus - it's all around, the flowers and the bees, a bird, a song, is in the air
you touch me here, I'm feeling: there !
a smile, and I, and I.........

- chorus -

- chorus -

"Remember a face"

(M / V: Jan Kuipers, W: Jos Witsenburg, V: Ingrid Loos)

"Lunar escape velocity" version :
I want to remember a face
dreams like bats in caves at dusk
I want to remember a face
dangling fragments fall alive
I want to remember a face - with my eyes closed
dangling fragments fall alive
I want to remember a face not the elements
they fall alive
I want to remember

all I see is human forms in magazines, anyone I meet
mother, father, sister, brother, cheese & chocolate on the street
all I see flesh on skull, anonymous, familiar somehow
I see drawing of perpertrators, pictures of victims on the street

I want to remember a face
I want to be somebody new
aaaa-haaa

I'm staring at who?
who?

"Over the moon" version :
remember a face
remember a face

all I see is human forms - in magazines, anyone I meet
mother, father, sister, brother, cheese & chocolate on the street
all I see flesh on skull, anonymous, familiar somehow
I see drawings of perpetrators, pictures of victims on the street

I want to remember a face
I want to be somebody new

all I see is shades of man - illusory, alien to me
random details block connection, or they blew my circuitry
all I see is genes express, relentlessly, predictable somehow
I see motion under the water, please don't turn away from me

I want to remember a face
I want to be somebody new

"Donkey bridge"

(M / V: Jan Kuipers, W: Jos Witsenburg, V: Ingrid Loos)

keyword, keyhole, key, some segment of it anyway
yes it's there, dear boy
it's there somewhere, I'm so sure of it
you just chip the rust away
donkey bridge is falling
    you just keep on thinking
donkey bridge is falling
    nothing is ever lost
pinholes, loopholes, dead - some of them are dead-ends
I used to wanna find the small red bar at the end

keyhole as private; access restricted or denied
    yes, you're right, dear boy
to step into the future I'll have to sink into the past
you just wipe the dust away
donkey bridge is falling
    you just keep on thinking
nothing is ever lost
  nothing is ever lost
it's like a little snack, a reason to play the game
I'd be so disappointed, if it just wasn't there

- chorus :
you could be a river, a vein on the surface
you could be travelling, driving south
you could be living and loving

I see the whole-ness, wholesale, transportation
    lost in observation
the world is a crystal, a neutral blue marble
you haven't got the nerve for it
donkey bridge is falling
    you just keep on thinking
donkey bridge is falling
    you're just observing it
the main stream can't be far, a short-cut or a maze
I think I'm catching up - on my way back in touch

- chorus -

I will survive

- chorus -

you could be full-blown alive
you could be full-blown alive
you could be living and loving
you could be full-blown alive

"I wanna remember"

(M: Jan Kuipers)

"Shout"

(M: Jan Kuipers, W: Jos Witsenburg, V: Claudia van 't Hart)

I shout as long as money preys: I am grey!, I am grey!
shout while I may, out loud now, shout while I may, out loud now

put it back into the box, Fox - no great loss, get it across
time is humming, put it back, Jack - put it back into the box

I shout as long as money preys: I'm grey!, I'm grey!
shout while I may, out loud now, shout while I may, shout while I may, out loud now

"The sky"

(M: Jan Kuipers)

"Urgent song"

(M: Jan Kuipers & W: Jos Witsenburg)

urgent song aphasia
fluxury, a-ha
fluxury, a-ha
fluxury, fluxury

volatile, so volatile
so volatile, so volatile

"Tucked away"

(M: Jan Kuipers, W: Jos Witsenburg, V: Ronald van Gerner)

"Lunar escape velocity" version :
no-one will look for me here - with all this rain and storm
no-one will look for me here
this whale is mine-o-mine - until someone comes along
no-one will look for me here
what did it do to you - my friend, my love, my child
no-one will look for me here
irreversible violence of time - until someone shoots this gun
no-one will look for me here
this gun, this gun, this gun, this gun

"Over the moon" version :
no-one will look for me here, with all this rain and storm
the choice is mine-o-mine, unless someone comes along
what can I say to you, my friends, my love, my child
irreversible violence of time, constant fear is clouding my mind

no-one will hear me cry now, with all this noise around
this chain is mine-o-mine, unless someone comes along
please understand my need, my friends, my love, my child
irresistable silence of mind, close my eyes and leave it behind
behind - behind - behind

"Whisk away"

(M / V: Jan Kuipers, W: Jos Witsenburg)

whisk away into the dark, fluxury
urgent song aphasia, fluxury

"Snakecharmer setback"

(M: Jan Kuipers, W: Jos Witsenburg)

- refrain:
guess how long it took - guess how long it took - for me and rattlesnake
guess how long it took - guess how long it took - to get to little miss Painstake
I'm so eager - to get to - mambo giggle foxtrot, yeah
I've been waiting - so long - for your wax spangled glueclot, baby

no she has no right - she has no right - no boa loose or loosely tight
no she has no right - she has no right - to bruise my ankles it's allright
I've got feathers - on my - viper - lizards in my pocket
someone else - has tapped - the 220 from her socket

snake can feel the heat of you, snake will lift you, charming you

put it back into the box, Fox - no great loss, get it across
I shout as long as money preys, I'm grey, I'm grey - shout while I may, out loud now
time is humming, put it back - put it back into the box
I shout as long as money preys, I'm grey, I'm grey - shout while I may, out loud now

I shout as long as money preys, I'm grey, I'm grey
shout while I may, out loud now - shout while I may, shout while I may

- refrain -

"All I see"

(M: Jan Kuipers)

"Hope springs eternal"

(W / V / M: Jan Kuipers)

see the empty shadows of once humanity
they're walking in the dark with cold insanity
with nothing left to lose, they're running without grace
only looking for a safer place

- chorus :
hope springs eternal
reality's like a stone
you know it makes us once again, alone

see the lonely people walking in the rain
the water's pouring down, you know they never will complain
with pride and dignity, they're dreaming through the day
maybe build a ship and sail away

- chorus -

"Anonymous insomniac"

(M / V: Jan Kuipers, W / V: Jos Witsenburg)

your voice frail and low
old footsteps, fresh snow
your strength has been smothered - helpless now - fearing now
no game for your fragile eagerness
alone, never mindless
you tap the net all night - in vain or not - at times you think you're hoping
alone
why play-you-try? - you can try-to-play....

ego sum pauper, nihil habea, nihil dabo

"In silence we trust"

(M: Jan Kuipers, W: Jos Witsenburg, V: Ingrid Loos)

high on greed, the Westworld sails for weeks on end
no reply but people listen to the code we send
thumping, rolling, crawling on, closing in on 'X'
in blight the engine dwindles, under random tracks
the caboose is loose, superstition, prepare for silent omission
to navigate this mastodon, key bridge - cable switch
we know that satellites are real and cannot run off course

- chorus :
satellites don't run off course
the Essence comes before the Source
but ships can disappear, disappear
ships went down before
they go down, they go down
they go down, they go down
(waves on top) of waves on top of waves on top of waves
on top of waves on top of waves

with a splash goes down the anchor murky mark
30 vadem water, never seen this perfect dark
bubbles gone now, silence grows complete to human ear
the deepening abyss is, pulling down the gear
and the PSI keeps on rising, as always compromising
to fabricate this fantasy, all share western glare
we know that satellites are real and cannot run off course

- chorus -
